Our vacation was enjoyable, but better times were expected while at sea. On shore excursions, NCL takes great care of their passengers and we always felt safe while in port cities. There were some really great times and there were other times where we wanted to jump off of the boat and swim home. The library had very few books or DVDs too choose from and the internet connection was not always reliable. The food served in Le Bistro was bland and the salads tasted soggy as reported from Best Cruise Lines. The Blue Lagoon had all the pleasantry of dining at McDonalds. The daily activities onboard of Gem were generic things like trivia pursuit challenges, Bingo that cost an arm and a leg to play, and bridge. There were boring lectures about future cruises and such, but most felt like sales pitches. The spa onboard had many different services but the prices were very steep. The gym was also a disappointment. While there were many different machines for different work outs, the area was very small and who wants to work out elbow to elbow with a complete stranger at their side? On the flat screen TV that was in the balcony cabin, there was like one channel that came in and it was mostly kids programming. The sheets also were never changed during our stay onboard of Gem either. Photography staff was pushy as were the staff in the onboard shopping center. Embarkation and disembarkation process could have used some fine tuning that would have made the whole process quicker and easier.
